GIVING BACK

The People of Tigray

In Chapter 9, I wrote about the war in Tigray. It’s deeply personal. My parents are from Mekelle. My family are from there. And what happened — and what’s still happening — broke my heart.

Between 2020 and 2022, a war devastated the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia. It’s estimated that 600,000 to 800,000 people lost their lives. Over a million were displaced. Thousands of women endured unimaginable violence. Children grew up overnight. And the world barely noticed.
The fighting may have slowed, but the suffering hasn’t stopped. People are still trying to rebuild. Families are still separated. Communities are still piecing themselves back together. There’s still not enough food, medicine, or support.

I couldn’t fight that war. I couldn’t even get out of bed at the time. But I could pray. And now I can point you towards people who are doing the work on the ground.

Omna Tigray is a nonprofit organisation founded by Tigrayan professionals from around the world. They advocate for human rights, provide financial support to refugees and displaced families, and work towards rebuilding and economic development in the region. “Omna” means “our large tree” in Tigrinya — a tree that keeps growing no matter what it’s been through.

GIVING BACK

The Limpsfield Trust

If you’ve read this book, you already know what camp means to me. It changed my life. It’s where I first encountered the Holy Spirit. It’s where I met the people who shaped my faith. It’s where I found Izzie. That place has been central to my story for over twenty years.

The Limpsfield Trust has been running life-changing activity holidays for young people since 1962. They welcome 10 to 19-year-olds for a week of fun, friendship, and the chance to explore the Christian faith for themselves. No pressure. No judgement. Just a safe place where young people are genuinely cared about.

Every penny donated goes towards paying staff, buying resources, and — most importantly — sponsoring young people who couldn’t otherwise afford to come. That matters to me more than I can say. Some of those kids are exactly who I was at sixteen.
If this book has stirred something in you, this is one of the most meaningful places your money could go.
